We're looking for an experienced Quality Control Chemist to support the laboratory development of our speciality chemicals for customers both within the UK and worldwide.
Lakeland Laboratories' speciality surfactant range is researched, developed and manufactured on site and includes:
- Amphoteric surfactants
- Anionic surfactants
- Wax emulsions
- Contract manufacture of bespoke products
Products are manufactured to ISO 45001 Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety standards, with a production capacity reaching 6000 TPA in reactors ranging from 1000 to 25000L.
Our broad range of customers includes multinationals, as well as smaller organisations and manufacturers. Lakeland is well-established amongst customers in the European market, as well as further afield into Asia and with direct sales into the USA. A majority of products are sold into Industrial & Institutional Cleaning.
About the role
You'll be based at our plant in Astley, Greater Manchester. You must be well-organised, self-motivated and possess good practical laboratory skills. You'll have:
- Ideally a qualification to Science degree level or similar.
- Prior laboratory experience is beneficial.
- Capability in Classical Wet Analysis.
- You're happy working in a small team, but confident to work independently.
- You must be prepared to cover other roles when needed.

A team of 22 manufacturing, laboratory and administration staff and management are all based on site, working closely together to deliver optimal results for our customers. A team of 4 is based in our laboratory.
Benefits & the information you need
Salary: Negotiable based on experience
Hours: 35-hour working week between:
- 0800-1630 Monday to Thursday
- 0800-1330 Friday
Holidays: 20 days per annum, plus 8 statutory bank holidays. After your first full calendar year, you'll gain an extra day annually up to a maximum of 30 days.
Bonus: You will be eligible for inclusion in our company bonus scheme
Pension: Defined Contribution Scheme (employer-matched up to 6%)
Start date: Late 2023/Early 2024
