Versatile oxidised homopolymer wax emulsion surfactants by Lakeland Laboratories

As part of an industry-wide move towards using water-based ingredients and reformulated wax emulsion products, Lakeland Laboratories’ range has been formulated by our in-house technical development team to be highly effective in applications as diverse as floor polishes, textile finishing and fruit coatings to help them stay looking appetising for longer, whilst reducing solvent use.

Incredibly versatile, easy to handle and with increasingly positive environmental profiles, wax emulsion surfactants by Lakeland, including our oxidised homopolymer range of Lakewaxes, have broad applications across industry, from industrial and institutional cleaning to mechanical and manufacturing sectors, construction, logistics and textile sectors.

What is an oxidised homopolymer?

An oxidised homopolymer is an active ingredient which can be used in compounds applied as a dispersant, as a protective covering, or as an agent giving a surface anti-slip and mould-tackling properties.

This can bring a number of benefits to the surfaces to which a wax emulsion containing these active ingredients is applied, including:

  • Increased scratch and scuff resistance
  • Reduced friction in mechanical actions and processes
  • Slip resistance, combined with the ability to produce a hard-wearing, glossy finish
  • Mould release properties

How do oxidised homopolymers make Lakewax wax emulsions more effective?

Oxidised homopolymer liquid compounds, manufactured under highly precise and controlled conditions at our laboratory in Greater Manchester, are formulated for low viscosity, which makes them easy to handle and apply, while resulting in a tough, scuff- and abrasion-resistant surface.

Manufactured using reduced solvent content, Lakeland Laboratories’ range of oxidised homopolymer wax emulsion Lakewax products perform a range of valuable protective functions, whether in glossy floor polishes which shield surfaces from heel marks and water damage, solvent-free paints, protective wood and timber coatings, and in mould release agents – which fight the formation of mould on particular surfaces, or allow it to be easily removed.

Also applied in the textiles industry, oxidised homopolymer wax emulsion Lakewaxes soften textiles and are used as part of the dyeing process. Affording greater lubricity, oxidised homopolymer wax emulsions make textiles easier to handle, drape, cut and sew.

Demonstrating their versatility, oxidised homopolymer wax emulsions are used in the formulation of printing inks, giving inks a hard surface for scuff-resistance. Especially useful in the packaging and shipping industries, tough inks ensures that marks and labelling printed on the packaging remain visible for effective organisation, storage and distribution of goods.

What are the specific characteristics & uses of oxidised homopolymer wax emulsions by Lakeland?

Our Lakewax oxidised homopolymer wax emulsions are manufactured under pressure, and are nonionic or cationic in nature.

Our range of oxidised homopolymer wax emulsions offers fantastic properties, including:

  • Easy to handle, free-flowing, and low viscosity liquids
  • Film-forming, adding extra toughness to polymer coatings
  • Low-slip, resulting in easier mechanical handling of packaged goods
  • Solvent-free, aqueous base that’s compatible with other aqueous surface cleaning and treatment systems
  • Anti-scuff, affording surfaces excellent protection from abrasion
  • High lubricity, so that when used in textile goods manufacture, increased stitching speeds can be achieved
  • Anti-blocking, preventing similarly-treated surfaces from sticking or creating friction

Lakeland’s oxidised homopolymer wax emulsion products are developed in-house by our speciality surfactant laboratory team, creating popular formulations including:

Lakewax 29: Formulated specifically as a floor polish, Lakewax 29 is particularly effective at repelling heel marks. The oxidised homopolymer wax emulsion forms a water-repellent barrier, which makes brushing and mopping easier and more effective.

Lakewax 37: A bespoke floor cleaning agent especially suitable for use in schools and industrial and commercial premises. One of our bestsellers, Lakewax 37 produces a more durable, less glossy, finish which gives excellent results in areas of high foot traffic.

Lakewax 44: Our specially-created formulation for use on natural hardwood floors, oxidised homopolymer wax emulsion Lakewax 44 gives highly impressive cleaning results, leaving treated floor surfaces slip-resistant. Often recommended for use in older public buildings where this type of flooring is common, Lakewax 44 can be used with confidence for quick, long-lasting results.
